Abstract：In China, the research on the famous historical cultural cities started rather late but developed very quickly. In this article, the author summarizes achievements in the research in recent ten years. It is from three aspects: the concept of protection, the three models of protection and the relations between protection and development. In addition, the author points out general tendency in the future: from macrocontrol to micro management, from monism to pluralism, from theory to practice.
